Ayahuasca Experience is published by the team behind Avalon Magic Plants, a smartshop in the Netherlands that sells ethnobotanicals and only sells to adults. We say this up front because a reader should know who is behind a page about a subject like this.

Avalon sells plant materials that are traditionally associated with ayahuasca. We chose not to link to any of them here. Pointing readers of a page about ayahuasca to the ingredients of a DMT brew would contradict everything the safety and legal chapters say: a home-made brew combines an MAO inhibitor and a controlled substance of unknown strength, and in most of Europe possessing it is a criminal offence. So this site has no shop links, no product cards and no discount codes.

Why we made it

Much of what is online about ayahuasca is written by people who sell ceremonies, and it is full of promises. We wanted one place that explains the brew, the experience, the risks and the law with sources, including the parts that no retreat puts on its booking page: the medication interactions, the deaths, the abuse cases and the court rulings.

How the information is put together

  • Chemistry, effects and risks come from peer-reviewed research and reviews, linked where we use them.
  • Legal statements come from the text of laws and court rulings, or from official reports, with the date we checked them.
  • Where something has not been measured, we say so. Where we could not verify a claim, we left it out.
  • We give no recipes, preparation methods or doses.
  • We make no medical or health claims of any kind, and we do not repeat such claims made by others.

Every page shows when it was last updated. Laws change and new research appears. If something here is out of date or wrong, Avalon's customer service can pass it on to us.
